Miracle March is a term special to Tahoe.
The term was coined in March of 1991. That year, California was experiencing the worst drought since the Dust Bowl. Lake Tahoe was at a record low.
On March 1, that all changed. It started snowing and didn’t stop, 50 inches of snow fell on Lake Tahoe. And then it continued, in the end, SurgarBowl ski resort and some areas of California received 240 inches, or 20 feet, of snow. Lake Tahoe’s snowpack went from 17% of average to 73% of average in 29 days.
